Marbella’s 27km coastline has a total of 24 sandy beaches; the two that fall within the Nueva Andalucía area are the lively Playa Puerto Banús right next to the marina, and Playa Nueva Andalucía – a family-friendly sheltered cove with tranquil, shallow waters, which has been awarded Blue Flag status for several years. This stretch of coastline is home to a handful of Marbella’s exclusive beach clubs: SLVJ Marbella Restaurant & Beach Club, La Sala by the Sea, and Ocean Club Marbella. The marina has many companies offering boat hire and a deluge of water sports and sea-based activities, such as jet skiing and hydrofoil surfing. Anchored just off Playa Nueva Andalucía is the Costa Water Park, a floating inflatable playground where kids can bounce and slide to their heart’s content!

Being so close to Puerto Banús and Marbella, Nueva Andalucía residents and guests can choose whether to immerse themselves in the vibrant and varied cultural scene offered by these important hubs of recreation and entertainment. National and international events include regattas, motor shows, art exhibitions and much more. Marbella Arena, the former bullring, puts on many musical, theatrical and sporting events throughout the year.

Nueva Andalucía has plenty of choice when it comes to shopping. If it’s just a few supplies you want, there are several supermarkets, an organic market and a couple of luxury delicatessens on your doorstep. But if you’re in need of a dose of retail therapy, head across the A-7 highway to the biggest El Corte Inglés in Spain – 6 floors of department store dreamland! For a more contained retail experience, there’s the smaller Marina Banús shopping centre just opposite. You can also do a spot of open-air shopping on Saturdays at the bustling street market Mercadillo de Puerto Banús, next to Marbella Arena. But if it’s the designer experience you’re looking for, Puerto Banús has it in spades: boutiques galore line the marina with all the leading names in fashion and luxury apparel.

The nickname Golf Valley is par for the course: Nueva Andalucía has become a mecca for golfers, with three prestigious private clubs – Real Las Brisas, Aloha, and Los Naranjos – and a fourth – La Quinta Golf & Country Club – just northwest of Nueva Andalucía on the other side of the AP-7 motorway. Built in the 1960s and 70s and created by world-renowned designers, these championship golf courses are considered some of the best in Europe, and their harmonious integration into the stunning Andalusian landscape, first-rate facilities, as well as a full calendar of social events and tournaments, attract both amateur and elite golfers.

Golf Valley is also home to La Dama de Noche (Lady of the Night), a 9-hole course designed by Enrique Canales, opened in 1991. With its floodlight system, it’s the only course in Spain which offers night golf, and you don’t have to worry about the mosquitoes – the sweet scent of the nearby night-blooming jasmine (after which the course is named) ensures they buzz off!

Although vibrant Puerto Banús is just a stone’s throw away, Nueva Andalucía’s elevated position and lush valley setting give it a private, country club feel. Nature lovers can explore the nearby Lago de las Tortugas (Turtle Lake), a 4.4 hectare lake and park, home to many breeds of water birds and other aquatic species. There are trails galore to explore for hikers and mountain bikers, such as the 8km circular Puerto Verde route from Aloha Golf Club with amazing views of La Concha mountain. Nueva Andalucía is a short drive from some of the area’s most beautiful villages, just 15km from Istán to the north and Benahavís to the northwest, both set in spectacular mountainous landscapes and rich in history and tradition.

Nueva Andalucía is gourmet heaven, with myriad restaurants serving a creative fusion of palate-pleasing indulgences. Nomad Restaurant & Lounge, Breathe restaurant and rooftop cocktail bar, NU Downtown and La Sala do so much more than delight your taste buds; prepare for a multi-sensory dining experience, with live music, beautiful interiors and exteriors, and those stunning views. Vôvem is a carnivore’s cloud nine, with its 15 breeds of beef the absolute stars of the show; Tomodachi is a masterclass in barbecuing the Japanese way; and Fat Mamma serves delicious authentic Italian dishes with a modern twist. There are so many more excellent eateries to tantalise your taste buds in Nueva Andalucía, you’ll just have to come and try them all yourself!
