Top local restaurants you may not have heard about in Marbella

When it comes to food, at Marbella Mountain Resorts we are very proud to have extensive knowledge on the subject. Being so involved with tourism in our city, it is crucial for us to gain first-hand knowledge of many restaurants- many very popular; others may be high-quality hidden gems

Do you want to live like a local and enjoy the true essence of Marbella before the arrival of the big international brands? Here are some recommendations from our CEO and Founder, Luis Ponce. We’ve gotten him to share one of his best-kept secrets. Below, we present a selection of restaurants with succulent dishes, excellent tapas, and a variety of drinks at local prices.

  • Restaurante Anai

A Mediterranean restaurant in San Pedro Alcántara (Marbella) that uses the finest seasonal ingredients to create fun, exquisite dishes that satisfy even the most discerning palates.

They offer a comprehensive menu to suit all tastes, featuring specialities such as Malaga-style suckling goat rack, cured beef from León, and spider crab salad. Don’t miss our “Miniature Cuisine,” an appealing concept where you can sample our menu in small, carefully prepared portions for a unique taste of our cuisine.

Enjoy our warm, welcoming service that makes you feel right at home. We look forward to welcoming you.

  • Restaurante Enea

Their cuisine celebrates Andalusia: cured meats, stews, dressings and traditional recipes in a modern, fresh format designed for sharing.

With Andalusia as its backdrop and inspiration, this new establishment recreates the traditional eateries that once served as gathering places for family and friends around a table or bar. Here, it’s a contemporary take on the concept in one of the country’s most cosmopolitan cities, Marbella.

The building’s structure creates two distinct spaces, both decorated by Isabel Párraga: the wine cellar on the ground floor and the restaurant or eatery on the upper level, or terrace.

  • Restaurante La Madrina

La Madrina Restaurant is one of the newest additions to the Marbella neighbourhood. A perfect blend of local cuisine and international flair, the service is natural and friendly yet formal and efficient, with a menu steeped in local flavour and international cocktails. The starters feature several innovative dishes, such as Wonton de Morcilla y Piñones, Steak Tartar croissant. Recommended dishes include “croquetas de jamón” or “empanadillas criollas”.

The cocktail shaker plays a key role, setting it apart from the competition for those who appreciate it. The Andalusian Dry Martini is extra extra dirty!

  • Primeria Selection

The same gastronomic space that has managed to combine the marketing of gourmet products with the creation of a place in which to taste quality raw materials and the launch of culinary demonstrations and workshops. This is, in essence, Primera Selection, an establishment in the centre of Marbella where you can stop by for a snack before noon or organise a meal with friends or for work. Whatever the reason, Primera Selection offers a well-cared-for dining room where you can eat everything from oysters and caviar to eel, cheeses, anchovies, and Iberian products, among others, and pair the food with a selection of wines that includes well-known references and others that are not. The quality is remarkable.

The menu offers a variety of French dishes. If you have never had the opportunity to try French food, this is the perfect place. Don’t miss their chocolate; it is delicious.

The cosy atmosphere lets visitors relax after a hard day at work. The restaurant’s terrace is perfect for eating or having a snack. Family gatherings are always welcome here. You will not stop recommending it to all your relatives.

  • Restaurante La Barca

La Barca is one of those restaurants that no longer exist in Marbella, with a seafood essence, old-school service, and staff raised on the Costa del Sol. A local, family-friendly, and exclusive atmosphere where you can return a second time, and they’ll remember your name.

The seafood is high quality but not overly fancy and overpriced, and the paellas and fresh fish are unbeatable, just the way they should be with the old recipes. The restaurant has gone through several stages throughout its history. It now seems to be regaining the reputation it once had in its prime.

  • Sidrería Manolo

This place is authentic; the menu is short and sweet; the food is delicious, fresh and simple! The blood sausage is incredible—and so is the turbot. And the service is efficient, warm and friendly.

Paper tablecloths? Paper napkins? Well, cutlery, worn crockery and glassware? So what? If you like unpretentious food, great service and atmosphere, you must go!

  • El Bigote

Talking about El Bigote in Nueva Andalucía is talking about an entire institution. A family business that Jose defends wonderfully with his wife and daughter. First-class raw material. Norway lobster, red shrimp, Huelva shrimp, shrimp, clams, all for 10. They also prepare high-quality fried food and an incredible oxtail.

Getting a free table without a reservation isn’t easy, but you can easily enjoy tapas at its small bar.

  • Taberna La Niña del Pisto

La Taberna de la Niña del Pisto is a great little restaurant: two floors, a family atmosphere, an extensive menu, and a good wine list. Professional treatment and very tasty food. You have to try the fried octopus, scrambled eggs with chistorra, oxtail croquettes, the incredible squid sandwich, black pudding, and, of course, ratatouille with egg. All delicious.

  • Restaurant Alfredo’s

Restaurant Alfredo offers excellent, family-friendly Spanish cuisine. Located in San Pedro, just 5 minutes from Puerto Banús. This relaxed, family-friendly Spanish restaurant has been around for years, offering fresh fish, seafood, and meat dishes, and is a local favourite.

Restaurante Alfredo in San Pedro is perfect for families with young children, with a large outdoor area set away from the road and a very family- and child-friendly vibe. The atmosphere is relaxed and warm even though the restaurant is normally packed to capacity. The food is typically Spanish, and the best way to order is to get lots of different dishes so everyone can tuck in and try a bit of everything. Must-haves include boquerones as a starter and lamb pork chops as a main.

  • Marabierta

Marabierta is a great addition to San Pedro’s fine-dining scene and a most enjoyable evening, peppered with highs and lows, but definitely one to repeat again and again! The extensive menu has many old favourites and staples, but includes some interesting and innovative dishes such as the cheese croquette starter that was presented looking like toffee apples; others included the fish soup inappropriately named ‘reused’ and a goat’s cheese salad.

For mains, try the beef sirloin, lamb chops, and sea bream in salt. In presentation, flavour, texture, and quantity, every single dish was faultless.

  • Taberna Gaspar

Taberna Gaspar is the best-kept secret in Marbella, so if it has come this far, it is because someone has whispered our name in its ear, in a low voice, so that no one else can hear it.

You’ve just found the place where mothers come to eat when they want to be cooked the way they cook for their family, because that’s what it is here: a family atmosphere and customers who have stopped being family to become friends.

This tavern invites us to come in and sit down because the table is already set!

Traditional/Sophisticated Restaurants you should visit

  • Tragabuches

In 1998, the first Tragabuches restaurant was created in Ronda. His intention then was to create the first Km.0 restaurant, where the product takes centre stage. 24 years later, we revive that same philosophy and cook Andalusia again.

In Tragabuches, they serve the dishes that we have eaten all our lives. Each product has a first and last name, since it comes from a specific crop and a special person. It offers a historical tour of well-known Spanish wines such as Marqués de Murrietas del Castillo Ygay 1925 or CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva 1928, as well as some more recent ones such as Alión 1991.

  • La Gula by Paladar

Simple to make, well-designed, with creative touches, and very tasty dishes.

We were already surprised by the quantity and quality of the Bodegón “Paladar” on Avenida del Mar, 13, just behind the Sala “Taok” and opposite what was always “Lepanto”.

But now, and with the same brand, we are also surprised by “Gula”, which is already the trendy place in Marbella, on the ground floor of the Hotel Baviera, on Avenida del Calvario, almost on the corner with Ricardo Soriano.

It does so with hearty dishes and an exquisite variety, mixing various cooking styles to offer delicacies paired with good red wine, plus excellent whites, served by attentive, highly professional staff. The best formula for success. And “Gula” triumphs every day.

The Cubans David and his brother, that excellent chef of “Paladar” who is Emilio Iznaga Corzo together with his partner Victor, are doing very well.
