A Guide to Nueva Andalusia

One of the jewels of Málaga is its stunning city Nueva Andalusia, the heart of this area’s Andalusia is in the south of the Iberian Peninsula. You can get to Andalusia by air, sea or land (car, train, bus or taxi). Nueva Andalusia is lively and very popular with residents, tourists and of course community. It has now become a desirable area with restaurants, bars, shops and a busy market, where people really want to go. Have you discovered it yet?

Where is Nueva Andalusia and how do you get there?

In Andalusia there are 4 domestic airports: Almería, Cordoba, Granada-Jaén and Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz province), and 2 international airports: Malaga and Seville which offer flights to and from the main Spanish cities, and other overseas destinations, with Spanish and foreign airlines. The main road route into Andalusia is on the A-4/E-05 through the Despeñaperros Nature Reserve (Jaén province)

When to go?

There’s always plenty of things going on in the marina, with regattas, markets and events throughout the year. On Sunday mornings we have our weekly market, with nearly 70 stalls around the marina selling a wide range of clothes, accessories, jewellery and artisan products. This is a nice time to visit, as our shops and cafes are open then too and the atmosphere is great. Our summer market is very popular and it’s a lovely place to visit at Christmas too. The cafes, restaurants and shops are open all day, so it’s a nice place to visit no matter what time of day. Choose your ideal moment!

Where to eat?

With Mediterranean-inspired gastronomy containing touches of fusion, many restaurants combine traditional dishes (rice, fried fish and shellfish) with the latest and most innovative trends, as well as healthy offerings. You will find the ideal for company lunches or simply to enjoy.

Where to shop?

Nueva Andalusia is a great place for a bit of shopping leisure and therapy. Across the city and nearby towns there’s a vast range of shop, offering everything you could dream of: from a small souvenir, gifts, clothing and much more!

YOU MUST VISIT AROUND:

*****

Important areas around Nueva Andalusia:

Nueva Andalusia is located close to the well-renewed areas such as the famous Golden Mile, Marbella and Puerto Banús in Málaga.

San Pedro Alcántara:

It has its origin in the agricultural colony of the same name that in 1860 he founded the General Manuel Gutiérrez de la Concha and Irigoyen, first “Marqués” del Duero. Located 10 km west from the glamour of Marbella and 20km from the town of Estepona, this ancient and farming community is today an unspoiled little town with is own charm. Do not miss La Plaza de la Iglesia with is church surrounded by typical narrow Andalusian streets with little shops, cafés and bars, as same as the street market on Tuesdays popular for its large variety of locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables.

Puerto Banús:

Puerto José Banús, more commonly known simply as Puerto Banús, is a marina located in the area of Nueva Andalucía, to the southwest of Marbella, Spain on the Costa del Sol. It was built in May 1970 by José Banús, a local property developer, as a luxury marina and shopping complex. It has since become one of the largest entertainment centres in the Costa del Sol, with 5 million annual visitors, and is popular with international celebrities. Developed around a coastal village in the Mediterranean architectural style, Puerto Banús contains high-end shopping malls, restaurants and bars around the marina.

Ronda:

Ronda is one of the most beautiful villages in the Spanish province of Málaga in Andalusia, which retains much of its historic charm. With a population of about 35,000 inhabitants, its not only one of the most beautiful but also from the most visited villages of the area. The place where Spanish history and traditions come together.

Conil:

Once a town whose wealth was based on the tuna fishing industry, Conil de la Frontera, on the Atlantic coast of Cadiz, has had to turn to tourism to survive. It was soon ‘discovered’ by the Spanish tourists from Seville and Huelva and its population now quadruples in summer from 23,000 to over 100,000 people. Spring and autumn are the best times to discover Conil; all the restaurants, shops and bars are open and the Spanish tourists are thin on the ground. Conil de la Frontera is a charming Spanish fishing town and resort.

Golden Mile:

The best hotels close to Puerto Banús, expensive properties, exclusive shops and high end restaurants. This is one of the most luxurious residential areas in Marbella, ideally located along the Mediterranean coast. It stretches for slightly over 2km from Puerto Banús in the west to the edge of the centre of Marbella in the east. Prince Alfonso con Hohenlohe was the one opening the Marbella Club Hotel in 1954 from since them the high-end society stared buying fabulous properties in that area nowadays know as the Golden Mile.

Old Town, Casco Antiguo:

This area includes the ancient city walls and two historical suburbs, Barrio alto (north) and Barrio Nuevo (east). Whats impressive is the ancient walled city which retains nearly the same layout as in the 16th century. The most iconic square in the old town of Marbella is la Plaza de los Naranjos, an example of Castilian Renaissance design. Around the square the are more Renaissance style buildings as the Catholic Monarch but in 1568 and the Mayor’s house that combines both gothic and renaissance style elements in it’s façade; and the Chapel of Santiago, the oldest religious building in the city, built earlier than the square probably around 15th century.

Gibraltar:

Rising up as an indomitable peak at the gateway between Spain and the African coast, Gibraltar is a unique destination with a life that goes beyond its surface. The monolithic Rock of Gibraltar entices tourists with its lush greenery and the friendly Barbary Macaques ubiquitous to the area. Beneath its looming exterior lay the Galleries, a veritable labyrinth of underground passageways running through the Rock. Above ground there is also plentiful tax-free shopping, as well as numerous beaches.

Vejer

The image of this white walled village makes travelers fall in love. Vejer de la Frontera is one of those destinations where you risk running out of memory in your camera very fast. There are many attractions that are hidden, but we have chosen these for your unforgettable visit.
