History and Culture

Estepona started out as a traditional fishing village and its historical centre is pretty much intact nowadays. If you are interested in monuments and archeological finds then you won’t be disappointed, as the area has many interesting historical points of interest, including the ruins of Castillo de Nicio, which can be found just past the urbanization Forest Hills, La Torre del Reloj (the watchtower), said to be one of the oldest ecclesiastical buildings on the Costa del Sol, Las Ruinas del Castillo de San Luis, an interesting visit to the ruins of a once great castle and Estepona town’s own Plaza de las Flores, the central square in itself is a historical focal point. There are many other historical sites in and around Estepona.

This city hosts the Flamenco Centre Patio de Estepona and the Peña Flamenca, where you can listen to the best flamenco of the coast. CASARES

Casares is a municipality that opens to the sea enjoying two kilometers of beach and is part of the tourist offer of the towns on the Costa del Sol.

The origin of Casares dates back to Roman times when Julio César ordered it to be built in gratitude for having cured himself by submerging himself in the Baños de la Hedionda. However, the core of the municipality has urban characteristics of Arab origin and has great beauty and heritage value, which has earned it the declaration of Historic-Artistic Complex in 1978.

Lovers of nature tourism can find in Casares various hiking trails or simply have the luxury of seeing the town from above, taking a flight on a zip line.

The old town

Andalusian traditional style at its best. The most enchanting area in Estepona is its oldest quarter, a slice of the typical Andalusian town. Bounded to the north and east by the Avenida Andalusia, to the south by the Rada beach and to the west by the Avenida Juan Carlos I – is the profusion of colorful plant pots that adorn the whitewashed walls of its houses.

Estepona’s historical center is dotted about the facades like the polka spots on a flamenco dress, they bring the cobbled little lanes to life with their big reds, yellows, blues, and greens.  You can investigate the “Castillo de San Luis”, a fortress consulter at the end of the 15th century,

Beaches

The Costa del Sol is world-famous for its beautiful beaches, which means that the most popular of them can become unbearably busy during summer.

Moreover, many of Estepona’s beaches have been awarded the blue flag status for their high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Most have good facilities, including children’s facilities, showers, beach restaurants, and watersports.

Is located to the west of the town and is an excellent beach for families and it is sheltered within a cove. Its ideal location means longer hours of sunshine, making it a particular favourite with serious sunbathers.

Nudist beach (10 minute drive from town). A quiet beach that stretches for hundreds of meters and gives way to spectacular views of the Rock of Gibraltar and the North African Atlas Mountains, while overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It can be visited by naturists both those who reside and do not reside in the complex. The beach is closed by a small promontory on the eastern side and a river bed on the western side, thus limiting public foot traffic.
