The Old Course of La Zagaleta, located in the Malaga town of Benahavís, will host this competition for junior players on September 18 and 19, 2023, and will serve as a magnificent prelude to the Solheim Cup 2023.
“The PING Junior Solheim Cup encourages and motivates the youngest players to one day fulfill the dream of defending the European and American team. Carlota Ciganda and Azahara Muñoz, among others, had that dream when they were 16 years old, and they are a clear example of it. However, this event is more than just a golf tournament. It is a way to encourage and develop the vital experiences and friendship of these young players”, she concluded.
The PING Junior Solheim Cup 2023 will be held on September 18 and 19, 2023 and will serve as a wonderful prologue to the Solheim Cup 2023, which will be held a few days later, from September 22 to 24 at the neighboring Finca Cortesín course.
This tournament was created in 2002 as a version of the Solheim Cup for young amateurs under 18 years of age and has a format similar to that of professional players, pitting the 12 best European golfers against as many Americans.
The Zagaleta Old Course, the course where teams from Europe and the USA will meet in this PING Junior Solheim Cup, was designed by Brad Benz in 1991 and slightly retouched later by Marc Westenborg in 2016.
The design of the Old Course is identified with the great designs of the golden age of golf in the United States, with fairways dotted with bunkers and water hazards, and above all, with fast and undulating greens. For all these reasons, this route will require developing a good technical game, combining strategy and precision, more than a great punch.
As for La Zagaleta, it was created in 1991 and is a company controlled by a family group that gives its name to one of the most luxurious and safest private urbanizations in Europe. Located in a privileged environment of 900 hectares in the mountains of Marbella, there are currently more than 250 homes built with views of the Mediterranean, Africa, Gibraltar, lakes, and the two golf courses with 18 holes each, and with prices ranging from 2.5 million euros to 30 million.
Marbella Mountain Resorts company exclusively manages the vacation rentals of the most luxury properties within La Zagaleta, providing 7 star hotel like services.
The PING Junior Solheim Cup was created in 2002 by John Solheim, President, and CEO of PING, and has since built up a well-deserved reputation for showcasing the talent of the world’s best junior golfers. Players like Georgia Hall, Charley Hull, Carlota Ciganda, Lexi Thompson, Paula Creamer, and the Korda sisters played in the PING Junior Solheim Cup before graduating to the Solheim Cup.
